Started life as a White Spot restaurant, with striking Googie-style design by the famous Armet & Davis. It has been Tom’s since at least 1999, though little changed from its earliest days, and remains a North Capitol Hill mainstay, always open to all comers. In May 2019, owner Tom Messina put the eatery up for sale. In Dec. 2019, the diner was added to the National Register of Historic Places, and will stay open under the same management but new property owners.
