Established in 1921 when Charles H. Orem (1882-1973) added a deli to his ice cream stand which he had set up as part of his dairy. The expanded structure, painted pink, stood at 209 Danbury Rd. until 2003, when it was razed to widen Rt. 7, and replaced at its new location with the present diner.

To call Orem’s a local institution would be an understatement, given the central and significant contributions to the community by Orem and his successors. The present owners, the Papanikolaou family, continue that great local tradition.

It is one of few local places to have been explicitly depicted in the long-running ‘Hi and Lois’ comic strip (which is furtively set in Wilton).
