Originally a smaller (5-stool) eatery opened by Dusty Rhoades in a different location (but only about 30 ft. away), moved in 1936 to a larger (17-stool) building by its second owners, Mr. & Mrs. Bill Carter. Their daughter, Bernita Popchuck, sold it to Ernie and Shirley Macbeth, who sold it in 2015 to Scott and Jan Pierce. (It’s literally under a parking garage, so look sharp!)

Famed for a wide selection of homemade pies and the Canteen sandwich, made with loose meat from a cooker not much younger than the place itself.
