‘Homemade’ diner.

Started as a coal store in 1916, then a gas station in the 1920s. Converted to a White Kitchen restaurant in 1936, Regal Sandwich Restaurant in 1957, Gateway Sandwich in the 1960s and ‘70s, and became Eat-Rite in 1986.

In late October 2017, an exhaust fan failure closed the restaurant indefinitely. The current owners and operators are elderly and in declining health, and fear that code issues could impede a sale. The immediate future of the diner remains uncertain.
