Started life as a Phillips 66 gas station, known locally then and still as the Flying Saucer building. Later a Mexican restaurant, Del Taco, and Chipotle. Recognized in 2012 as a ‘Preservation Win’ by the National Trust for Historic Preservation, and later become a Starbucks (#91232).
The ‘flying saucer’ look is illusory, as it’s really only a concave half-dish, and from above looks like a shallow pan — an interesting example of buildings of the period, no longer styled to be seen from the air at low altitude, as many earlier ones were, but only from the ground.
