Formerly of Soho, Manhattan (at 80 6th Ave.), originally the Holland Tunnel Diner. Moved here in 2007, it suffered catastrophic structural failure. After substantial repairs, it finally opened in 2008, but closed again in 2012 and was put up for sale.
This diner has appeared in a surprising number of films and other media, including Friends, Sex and the City, After Hours, Spider-Man (2002), a-ha’s music video for “You Are the One”, Miami Vice, and Reading Rainbow. Frank Sinatra was a regular, as were many Yankees players over the years. Playwright Jonathan Larson, who wrote Rent, used to work here, where he met fellow waiter Jesse L. Martin, who then played Tom Collins in Larson’s play.
